The varied and creative post of Senior Commissioning Editor will involve leading a relatively new and growing commissioning team, which is responsible for keeping its finger on the pulse of areas where teachers need support and commissioning resources and CPD events to fill these. Resolutely customer-facing and operating a little like a publishing house, we spend our time researching, attending conferences and speaking to teachers to make sure that we make the right decisions about what resources to produce and when, as well as about the ways that we interact with digital and print publishers on endorsed and partner resources. We are a tight-knit and forward-thinking team, and enjoy working collaboratively and sharing ideas.

The Senior Commissioning Editor is responsible for planning a series of large-scale research projects and for long-term customer engagement plans, including how publishers and digital publishers fit into this picture. As well as synthesising and analysing the insight and recommendations made by the Commissioning Editor and Publisher Relationship Manager in their team, to develop the Product Support strategy and make recommendations to the Head of Product Support, they will also have an important oversight of all support projects and developments, particularly thinking to the future and planning forward projects and engagement requirements that help to deliver the approved Product Support strategy as defined by the Head of Product Support.

What you’ll be doing

  • Leading a team of two: a Commissioning Editor and Publisher Relationships Manager.
  • Reviewing monthly insight reports from their team.
  • Incorporating Product Management suite-specific insight.
  • Building a firm and time-aware knowledge base of teacher needs, worries and problems.
  • Spotting trends to dictate reactive support projects.
  • Making decisions based on relevant directions of support development and research priorities.
  • Sharing support insight across the business.
  • Informing Product Managers on the state of the resources nation – so that these can be used as part of their strategies.
  • Fostering and guiding a pro-active approach to digital and print publishers.
  • Making recommendations to the Head of Product Support.
