What it’s about

The Research and Thought Leadership group at Cambridge Assessment English are recruiting a Senior Research Manager to join our expert team. The Senior Research Manager is responsible for identifying and conducting a range of scientific research activities related to examinations, products and services offered by Cambridge Assessment English. These areas include language assessment, language learning, education reform, corpus linguistics, large-scale survey research, and teacher development.  Senior Research Managers engage with a wide range of audiences to showcase Cambridge Assessment English research and expertise. Our research work is highly specialised and training and development opportunities will be provided in the first few months.

 

What you’ll be doing

You will join a diverse team of experts in language testing, learning oriented assessment, and educational measurement, and collaborate with colleagues from across the organisation to ensure the quality and validity of Cambridge Assessment English products and services.

  • In consultation with other business functions, identify and conduct research activities needed to ensure that specific products, product design features and performance objectives meet business objectives and are of high scientific and technical standards.
  • Provide an evidence-based research perspective on issues related to the development of specific exams, learning products, skill areas, technology areas, or education reform projects.
  • Develop robust research methodologies, implement research investigations and report upon the research investigations undertaken.
  • Identify and conduct innovative research in the areas of language learning and assessment to support the growth and diversification of Cambridge Assessment English.
  • Assist in raising the academic profile of Cambridge Assessment English by publishing research, engaging with a wide range of customers, and showcasing research and expertise through new and existing channels to key audiences, such as academics, teachers, admissions personnel, policy makers.
  • Plan work schedules, assign tasks and delegate responsibilities involved in research projects.

 

What we’re looking for

Qualifications

It is preferred that you have a PhD or equivalent in a relevant field, e.g. language assessment, applied linguistics, educational measurement or related field. Applicants near PhD completion will be considered as well.

An MA qualification with appropriate background and experience will also be considered, though possibly at a lower grade.

 

Skills and Experience

Evidence of ability to design and carry out quantitative and qualitative research with a focus on language testing, automated assessment, language learning, or educational measurement is required.  You will have, or be prepared to develop, expertise in language assessment, language learning and/or educational testing.

You will need excellent communication skills for oral presentations and report writing for a wide range of audiences, and excellent interpersonal skills for collaborating with internal and external customers. You will be able to prioritise effectively, manage projects including planning work schedules, and delegate responsibilities appropriately.

Knowledge of a range of statistical software or qualitative analysis software will be an advantage, as will be familiarity with Cambridge Assessment products and services.
