Are you an experienced Senior Applications Manager who is able to own and lead on all activities associated to the application or suite applications?

As a Senior Application Manager your focus will be delivering releases for key business applications and IT Service related projects which help to shape Cambridge Assessments applications.

You will work closely with stakeholders at all levels, using your skills and experience to help influence key decision makers.

As a Senior Application Manager you will be responsible for establishing and leading enterprise-wide, cross functional strategic and operational initiatives including launching national and international key services to release exam results for millions of candidates, large-scale operational improvements, major application improvements and infrastructure upgrades and deployments.

This role will be aligned to our Centre of Excellence teams and therefore demonstrable experience of managing application releases and projects in an agile context with teams based onshore and offshore will be an advantage.

Responsibilities of the role will include: 

Working relationships with BTS Service SMT and Senior business representatives on a regular basis.

  • Will be involved in shaping the application management processes and methodologies
  • Has a full understanding of how their application or suite of applications fit into the overall business service and identifying potential improvements to help increase the stability or value of the service
  • Close working relationship with the Service Delivery Managers in order to help proactively shape the service plan for their applications or suite of applications
  • To be responsible for the stability and functional delivery of an application or suite of applications within BTS Service
  • To be the first contact point for the application or suite of applications assigned and be able to provide a detailed level service information as requested
  • Key contact for any additional work against the application/suite of applications coming from projects or other applications dependencies
  • Management of the application or suite of applications through every stage of its lifecycle
  • Proactive management of incident investigation and resolution, by being involved in war rooms, Major incidents, Problem record resolutions etc. to either prevent or resolve a major incident within their application or suite of applications
  •  Manage and oversee the delivery of the backlog items for their application or suite of applications, with involvement of prioritisation with the relevant Business Units and provide recommendations of the inclusions for each release
  • Work with the application owner to define the scope of each release ensuring there is the correct balance of new functionality vs stability enhancements
  • Responsible for planning and road mapping of an application or suite of applications defining the deliverables, resource requirements and work plan for the required application releases,
  • Manage the development and delivery using both agile and/or waterfall frameworks as required
  • Work closely with business stakeholders and partners to develop effective working relationships
  • To ensure every lifecycle stage within a release meets the quality standards agreed within the Technology department and the Business Units.
  • Matrix management of the aligned resources for each release, ensuring all resources are fully engaged
  • Keep abreast of market trends and emerging business and technological opportunities and providing updates and impact assessments of these areas.

We are looking for someone who is able to build and maintain trust amongst stakeholders at all levels, this trust is vital when making effective decisions or recommendations based on information provided.

The successful candidate will need:

  • A proven track record of successful release implementation in an application development environment.  With previous experience in managing an application or suite of applications
  • Previous experience in transitioning applications into operations.
  • Experience in software development and usability design.
  • Experience of the full application life cycle, with a working knowledge of each of the relevant stages is essential.
  • Working knowledge of planning tools and delivery methodologies such as MS Project, Prince 2, Jira as well as agile frameworks best practices.
  • The Senior Application Manager must hold a relevant degree with at least 5 years’ experience in a similar role or must have at least 10 years equivalent practical experience
  • Proven experience in effective risk & issue management
  • The ability to convey technical information to a non-technical audience reaching the desired outcome/understanding for both
