What it’s about

We are looking for a Research Officer to join the Assessment Research Team. Working with the Research Manager and the Principal Research Officer, you will contribute to research that investigates (and thus help ensure) the validity of Cambridge International’s assessments and programmes of education in accordance with the requirements of regulatory bodies and Cambridge Assessment’s policies.  The team provides research to support practitioners developing and delivering assessments and educational programmes for learners and teachers across the world.  As part of Cambridge Assessment’s community of researchers the Research Officer will have opportunities to develop through collaborative working and research events. 


What you’ll be doing

  • Design and conduct research to ensure the standards and quality of our products (examinations and educational programmes).  For example, comparability research, predictive validity studies, reliability and construct validity studies.
  • Work with Product Managers to devise and implement processes to validate the products for which they have responsibility.
  • Share research outcomes at seminars and meetings and input to training staff at workshops and research events.
  • Produce and analyse data for projects in other parts of Cambridge Assessment such as those on reliability and comparability across time, time zones, subjects and qualifications and with UK standards.
  • Contribute to work across the Division to review procedures regarding standards and quality in our examinations and educational programmes.
  • Take the lead in working with Product Managers in the devising and implementation of enhanced processes for the validation of the syllabuses for which they have responsibility.


What we’re looking for



  • Undergraduate degree
  • Prior experience of designing and conducting social/psychological/educational research
  • Bibliographic skills to search and review relevant research literature
  • Knowledge and experience of statistical software packages (e.g. SPSS, SAS, R)
  • Personal computing skills (including Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint)
  • Ability to interpret quantitative and qualitative data
  • Ability to communicate accurately and effectively in writing and orally
  • Personal skills for dealing with research users and colleagues
  • Ability to prioritise between simultaneous projects in order to make adequate progress on all of them.
  • Ability to solve problems creatively
  • Presentation skills
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Ability to work under pressure and to inflexible deadlines
  • Ability to work as part of a team



  • Knowledge of educational assessment
  • Working knowledge of research literature in education, assessment and examinations
  • A research-based post graduate qualification
