What it’s about

This is an opportunity to join the internal proofreading team which provides a high-quality proofreading service for live question papers. You will report to the Editor, Assessment Materials, within the Assessment Standards and Quality group. You will proofread question papers in all subjects and at all levels. We’re a small friendly team, working closely with our Production department and with subject staff. There will be opportunities to develop your proofreading skills further.


What you’ll be doing

  • Proofreading question papers to make sure they are free of grammar, spelling, typographical, syntax, layout and formatting errors.
  • Providing advice to subject staff on queries about grammar and use of clear English.
  • Contributing to the continual improvement of our team processes and procedures.
  • Helping create and maintain style guides.


What we’re looking for

You will have a high standard of spoken and written English. You will be methodical and meticulous, able to demonstrate sustained accuracy and attention to detail.


You’ll be educated to A Level (ideally in English or an Arts or Humanities subject) and will have experience of proofreading. A proofreading qualification would be an advantage.


You will be comfortable working on your own on focused tasks, and be organised. You will be a clear communicator, able to liaise diplomatically with the owners of assessment material.


You will be flexible and adaptable, and demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement.
