What it’s about                    

The Validation and Data Services Group is looking for an experienced Data Scientist to lead a range of projects that apply innovative Machine Learning approaches to a range of business activities. You will also be responsible for developing a small team of data scientists, and in providing consultancy and training to staff within the organization on the application of analytics and machine learning to enhance decision making across the business.

 

What you’ll be doing

You will join a team of data analysts responsible for key analytics processes that directly support assessment processes.  You will work closely with colleagues across the organisation as we expand the role of the team, to embed data and analytics in all aspects of our delivery, sales, marketing and assessment processes.

  • Help develop and implement the Cambridge English strategy for Data and Analytics
  • Provide specialist expertise to support and collaborate with colleagues across the business to understand their business needs and identify opportunities to improve them through the use of data and analytics.
  • Direct, design and conduct substantial data science projects to deliver measurable business outcomes and value.
  • Develop and grow a team within Validation and Data services to provide a range of Data and Analytics support for the business.
  • Work closely with colleagues in the Business Technology Services division to help develop our infrastructure and manage and utilise our data to maximise its value.
  • Communicate results in a comprehensible manner to all levels within the company, to build awareness of data and analytics as an essential part of our business, and help improve data literacy across the group.

 

What we’re looking for

  • A higher degree (PhD preferred) in a quantitative field: Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics or a related discipline.
  • Coding proficiency in SAS, R, Python or similar packages is required, familiarity of working with distributed file systems and related technology (e.g. Spark, Hadoop) is desirable.
  • Fluency in various machine learning and data mining algorithms such as logistic regression, random forest and neural networks for prediction and recommendation
  • At least two years of experience related to the application of machine learning approaches in a business context is required.
  • Experience of working effectively in a collaborative cross-departmental team.
  • Passion for solving interesting and meaningful real-world problens using principled techniques and practices
