Assessment Manager, Cambridge English Qualifications 

Permanent contract, full-time 

Salary: £33,594- £42,500 

Location: The Triangle Building, Cambridge (though most staff are currently working from home due to the Covid situation) 

  

About the Role 

Assessment Managers in the Cambridge English Qualifications team are responsible for managing the production of question papers, and are involved in a wide range of assessment processes. The role is an excellent opportunity for experienced ESOL/EFL professionals with a keen interest in assessment. 

 

Cambridge Assessment English is a division of Cambridge Assessment, a not-for-profit department of University of Cambridge. We develop and produce the most valuable range of qualifications for learners and teachers of English in the world. Over 5 million people in 130 countries take our exams every year. Around the world over 20,000 universities, employers, government ministries and other organisations rely on our exams and qualifications as proof of English language ability. 

  

Accountabilities 

The principal accountabilities are: 

  • managing teams of test material writers, and the editing, pretesting and proofreading of test materials 
  • developing and updating key documentation 
  • carrying out assessment-related administrative responsibilities 
  • contributing to increases in efficiency and effectiveness and initiating and/or contributing to research 
  • participating in exam reviews and in the development of new testing services. 

  

What we’re looking for 

The following are essential for this role and form the selection criteria for shortlisting: 

  • recognised entry level EFL/ESOL teaching qualification (Cambridge CELTA or equivalent) (this may be substituted by significant directly relevant experience in working for an exam board and on exam processing) 
  • several years of EFL/ESOL teaching and/or assessment experience (some ideally carried out overseas), including experience in preparing candidates for Cambridge English exams (this may be substituted by significant directly relevant experience in working for an exam board: on exam processing and on the production of Cambridge English exams) 
  • experience of materials production and/or evaluation 
  • an interest in educational assessment and some involvement in assessment in previous employments 
  • good interpersonal and people management skills 
  • sound organisational, administrative, prioritising and planning skills 
  • ability to evaluate texts, exam questions and other material as suitable for use 
  • excellent attention to detail, including proofreading skills 
  • excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • flexibility and adaptability 

  

The following are desirable for this role:  

  • good presentation skills – possesses the skills to be an effective and credible presenter at conferences and other events 
  • Masters degree in relevant field 
  • experience of acting as a Cambridge English examiner (speaking or writing tests) 
  • experience of working in a complex and busy office environment 
  • administrative experience
