What it’s about

We are seeking an experienced Enterprise Architect to play an integral role in building a holistic view of Cambridge Assessment’s technology roadmap. You will partner with both business and technology groups to ensure that the enterprise architecture not only aligns with the organisation’s overall objectives, but also enables both groups to work collaboratively to meet Cambridge Assessment’s mission and vision.
As Enterprise Architect you will work as part of the architecture team to develop and enhance the architectural framework, governance process and repository to support continual improvement and engagement of the architecture practice. You will address concerns of business and technology stakeholders, produce consistent and relevant artefacts and deliverables to illustrate design, and provide collaborative guidance to others in the organisation.
You will positively influence the behaviour of a wide range of stakeholders, as well as those who may be senior in grade and experience all the way up to CEO level. 
The role of Enterprise Architect is a key component in the delivery of Technology projects and programmes which support the work of Cambridge Assessment as a whole.

 

What you’ll be doing
 
•    Lead the creation of the enterprise architecture vision, mission & strategy, providing clear, concise and respected opinion to all when collaborating across the organisation.
•    Build the long-term strategic roadmap for enterprise architecture
•    Align IT strategy and planning with the company’s business goals and objectives
•    Partner with business and technology subject-matter experts to elicit and translate business requirements into technology solutions
•    Lead the design and modelling of tactical and strategic architectures for delivery, development, and support of projects
•    Partner with solution architects, infrastructure architects, data architects and business architects to provide a consensus based scalable and adaptable architectural solution
•    Develop and maintain policies, standards, and guidelines to ensure that a consistent framework is applied across the organisation
•    Actively assess and capture risks, issues, assumptions and dependencies around designs and work with stakeholders to mitigate.
•    Use architectural expertise to propose architecture that is based on sound criteria; meaning that objective, fact based decisions are made.
•    Support due diligence for new suppliers of technology or technology services to ensure fitness for purpose for inclusion in the architecture.
•    Maintain a dialogue with senior business stakeholders to ensure the on-going relevance of the enterprise architecture.
 
What we’re looking for
 
Qualifications
•    Degree qualified or equivalent practical experience.
•    A strong and broad understanding of current architecture methodologies gained through education and experience.
•    A Chartered IT Professional, Chartered Engineer, Certified IT Architect Professional (CITA-P) or equivalent accreditation is desirable.
 
Skills
•    Ability to “think big” and challenge conventional wisdom regarding technology refresh and hype.
•    Strong leadership skills and an ability to build consensus among many stakeholders.
•    Comfortable with ambiguity and willing to take principled bets on new technology.
•    A demonstrable ability to adapt to new situations is expected, with the skills to influence and communicate from the technical specialist to the senior leader.
•    Ability to establish, implement, and enforce appropriate IT standards to meet business requirements.
•    Ability to represent the architecture team and the wider technology team internally to C-level and externally as appropriate
•    Exceptional interpersonal skills, including teamwork, facilitation and negotiation with the ability to communicate very technical issues plainly to a non-technical audience.

 

Experience 
•    The ideal candidate will have played a leading role in the successful digital transformation of a similar sized organisation, using a user-centric, customer journey focussed approach.
•    They will have experience of and be an evangelist for business outcome driven enterprise architecture that can support and adapt to an agile and iterative delivery methodology.
•    Significant experience in IT and in a software development environment as an architect across multiple domains is expected. Ideal candidates will have experienced a breadth of roles, across multiple industries, with some experience in an internal IT organisation and some in a customer facing role in an IT supplier or outsourcer. 
•    This is a role where the individual will be expected to take responsibility for situations, lead workshops, and drive to gaining resolution to allow projects to proceed appropriately.
•    Experience of working as part of an architecture team to develop and enhance the architectural framework and governance process.
•    A wide-ranging experience of architecture in a broad range of technical environments together with skills in requirements validation, process modelling, systems analysis, and in-depth knowledge of common architectural styles and patterns. 
•    An all-rounder with broad knowledge across all technical and non-technical aspects of enterprise architecture and design, including maintaining an awareness of wider industry trends.
